You Said It

Another success story from APSS member Denise M. Baran-Unland: My team and I have not only learned practical tips that actually work, we've learned the strategies that make them work. Since 2020, we have learned more through (APSS) than through all other sources combined - ever since I started writing my first book in 2008. And we have increased our sales every year because of it.

  • I've also received several invitations to speak this year and sold books at every event.
  • A local TV station has contacted me to schedule an interview.
  • I have one corporation that is potentially interested in purchasing books in bulk.
  • I have a presentation scheduled with a government agency in early 2024, the result of a successful meeting with its board chair.

Special Sales Tip of the Day: April 19, 2024

Quick story: “See that kid?” a barber says to his customer pointing to a boy standing outside the shop. “He’s not the brightest kid in the world. Watch, I’ll prove it.” The barber takes out a one-dollar bill and a five-dollar bill and then calls the boy inside. He holds out both bills and asks, “Which one do you want?” The boy takes the one-dollar bill and leaves the shop. “See!” the barber says, laughing. The customer leaves the barber shop and spots the boy. He says, “If you don’t mind my asking, why didn’t you take the five-dollar bill? The boy responds, “Because the day I choose the five-dollar bill the game is over.”

The moral? Sometimes, when negotiating a sale of your books it is okay to let the buyers think they are right, as long as you profit in the long run.

Quick Pick of the Week

Negotiating with a corporate buyer for a large-quantity sale of your books has both rational and emotional elements. See a series of three articles on this process: The Process of Negotiating, Emotions of Negotiating, Managing Post-Sale Emotions.
