An interesting article in the August 25 Wall Street Journal (“How an Entrepreneur’s Zeal Can Destroy a Startup” Pg R1) should be mandatory reading for all authors thinking about publishing a book. Highlights of the article: passion leads entrepreneurs to overconfidence; a passionate founder is more likely to misread whether a large potential customer base exists; the biggest thing they lack is sales experience; 79% said execution of their business plan to longer than expected; there is a tendency to expect positive outcomes even when such expectations are not rationally justified; many believe, “that won’t be me. I’ll avoid those problems.”
