How to Sign an Author and Draw Up a Contract

Hi, I need help with the contracts and agreements needed to sign an author to publish his book. Any help out there? Thanks.

I just recently created a contract and signed two new authors. I used the following resources, which were very helpful:

"Business and Legal Forms for Authors and Self-publishers" by Tad Crawford --
includes 25 different contracts, with very detailed checklists.

"Literary Law Guide for Authors: Copyright, Trademark, and Contracts in Plain
Language" by Tonya Marie Evans and Susan Borden Evans -- includes a CD with
downloadable forms

I also found a very good sample contract, with explanations at

For others who were in your boat Elaine, (like me), I wanted to add there are more than one edition. Make sure you get the 2005 edition instead of the 1995 so you can have information about ebooks too.
