SPANnet - Self Publishing Information

Hello All:

My publishing company was formed as an LLC last year. We published two books, attended conferences, traveled out the ying-yang--in other words, collected a ton of tax-related documents. Our company is based in the Bay Area (North California), so I wanted to know if any of you can recommend a good tax accountant.

Thanks in advance!

Hi James,

I haven't a clue who to recommend in SF.  I'm on the other side of the country!  My daughter is living there, however.  Recently, she told me of some work she was doing with the Small Business Development Center.  I've worked with SBDC here in Vermont, but I was especially impressed with some of the things she was telling me about her experience.  Here's their web site:

Basically, the SBDC pays for free consulting sessions with any of their business professionals.  My daughter has been meeting with their business plan specialist, marketing specialist, wholesale/retail specialist, and their Quickbooks consultant.  She also raves about their workshops and classes:
Now, I doubt if they have any accountants on staff, but I'd be willing to bet that they have some good referrals.  Anyway, it seems like a great resource, right there in your back yard.

Now, I can't refer you to an accountant, but if you wanted to get hooked up with some great accounting software that is designed for publishers... :-)

Anyway, I hope that helps.
