SPANnet - Self Publishing Information

Hello everyone,

I am a science fiction author working on getting my first book out there, I am looking for
ideas of what works and what doesn't work for a authors website? There are two reasons
that I am looking for advice.

1) I want to create
a website that is easy to us, and that will maximize my book sales when I get
it published.

2) I own a
small business that builds and maintains websites, and am planning on using my
authors site as a showcase of my skills. I have built small business sites, and
blogs, but no authors sites.

To see what I have done so far visit www.rockymountainwebs.com

Any thoughts and ideas would be great,

Thanks

Chris

I like what you have done so far but I don't see your book up there yet. Do you have the cover ready? Have you written a blurb for it? Do you have a target date for its publication? Will there be an ebook to go with it? If you have any material, you'd best get it on there now. See my site http://www.antellus.com and look at how I do it. Even if you don't have a book ready, the best way to market your book is to load what you have on your site in a sidebar and let the interest factor prep readers for your book when it is published. Advance publicity of some kind is always effective.
Thank you, this is great! How long before publication did you start putting information about your up-coming book on your site?
Assuming I have things under control, as soon as I conceive of the idea. For example, I announced my latest book Written In Blood as soon as I set it up to start writing. There were delays and delays in getting it finished but I made sure the title was known and in the blogosphere before I finished it, and then it was only a matter of making sure it was published and available for sale as soon as possible. I had thought of only publishing an e-book first to test the waters, but there were plenty of people telling me that I should go ahead and put out a print book at the same time.
