SPANnet - Self Publishing Information

I am getting my back cover designed as I close in on my self-publication of The Simple Guide to Lasting Love.  Should I put a UPC code on the back cover?  I would like to sell it in bridal shops and gift shops.  Thanks in advance for your support and help!

Hi Maura,

I purchased my ISBN numbers & barcodes at Bowker http://www.Bowkerlink.com Visit their website to learn about the system for U.S. sales. I bought my ISBN numbers using my publishing company's name.

You can buy them as a package (ISBN & barcode together) which enables you to sell them at stores where they use scanners, and most distributors only want books that have them on your product. I self-published my book "Mission Possible" and bought ISBN''s for my paperback book, audio book on CD, and Kindle ebook version. You'll need a different ISBN for each product for tracking purposes and distribution. Hope this helps...

Maura,

Welcome to the Books & Blogs Group. Even though we can provide some helpful input to your question (thank you, Deborah!), the focus of this Group is about Blogs, not about book production. I really think you'll be much more likely to get a wider range and greater number of responses from either the Book Production Group, or from the SPANnet Forum. Give them a try, too.
