Underrun —when a printer manufactures fewer copies than were ordered.

Unit cost —the production cost to print each individual book.

Universal Copyright Convention —an agreement, ratified by 90 nations, to offer the copyrighted works of citizens of other nations the same protections as are extended to those of their own citizens.

Universal discount schedule —a system that gives everyone the same discounts, whether wholesaler, bookstore, individual, or library.

Up-charge —an additional fee incurred over and above a stated price.

Uppercase —(uc) the capital letters of a font.

URL —Uniform Resource Locator. The full name (address) of a Web site.

UV coating —liquid applied to a printed sheet, then bonded and cured with ultraviolet light.
