Jacket —a protective and attractive cover for hardback books. It provides space for visual display and promotional copy. Also called a “dust cover” or “dust jacket.”

Jobber —a person or company who buys from a publisher, then resells to a bookstore or library. Sometimes referred to as a “wholesaler” or a “distributor.”

JPEG file— Joint Photographic Experts Group. File format commonly used to display graphics and images in HTML documents on the Internet.

Justify —the setting of type so that the end of each line is flush right and aligned perfectly.
